We Need your Help!

Decatur Area Habitat for Humanity, like all Not- for- Profits, has been hit hard by the COVID 19 pandemic. But despite all the mess of 2020, we continue to move forward with the mission of Habitat. Last month, three more partners, made their final payments and became mortgage free homeowners. This is a big deal and we congratulate all the years and hard work done by our homeowners to complete their journeys which many started over twenty years ago.

Our ReStore continues to grow and become more profitable. This is not just a regular thrift store, but everything that is donated and sold, returns to the mission of Habitat. The profits, above and beyond running the ReStore, go back into building habitat homes. Since, the property west of the ReStore has been donated to Habitat, we have started working on repairing roofs and planning to expand our campus to better serve our community. This not only will help expand our operations but will also help the neighborhood revitalization and improvements in our area.

We still have two houses which are in the process of being constructed, though the pandemic has slowed us down considerably. The shutdown especially effected our partnership with the Vocational Building program in the High Schools. Yet, the Veteran’s build is almost complete, and the Wood Street house is having cabinets installed and flooring done.

As it has been said many times in the thirty three (33) years and sixty six (66) homes we have built for families in Decatur and Macon County, Decatur Area Habitat can only exist through the generosity of our friends and neighbors here in Macon County.

As 2020 winds down and we move into the promise of a new year, please remember Decatur Area Habitat as an option for your year end giving.

As for Giving Tuesday, any donation will help, but I challenge you to give $10.00 to Decatur Area Habitat today and to pass this email along to 5 friends. A simple donation can help us continue to assist families who need a hand up and not a handout, to help our homeowners, build their own homes and pay affordable mortgages.

Donations can be made in person or mailed to or office at 932 E. Wood, or by clicking on  Donate above. If there are questions, please call 217-425-6446. Thank you for all you do for our community.
